Recycled plastic is made by collecting plastic waste such as plastic bottles or fishnets, shipping it to processing facilities, melting it down into pellets and then spinning those pellets into new polyester fibre.

Recycled polyester, also known as RPET, is obtained by melting down discarded plastics and re-spinning it into new polyester fibre. Polyethene terephthalate (PET) can be recycled from both post-industrial and post-consumer materials. By using plastic bottles and containers discarded by the consumers, RPET is formed.

When we started to conceive The Running Republic, it was clear that although polyester and polyamide are the best fibres in sports apparel, we would not be using them in their virgin state. We are acutely aware of the current global emergency regarding plastic pollution, and we did not want to introduce new contaminating materials into the environment.

POY (pre oriented yarn): it can be elongated and can not rebound. It can not be made into warp or weft alone. It must be combined with other wires and can be elongated by 1.6 times. POY wire is a semi-finished product of low elastic network wire. Typical fabric: washed velvet.

Recycled polyester is a sustainable yarn. It offsets use of crude oil, conserving precious natural resources & energy. The difference between virgin polyester and recycled polyester is that the former is created from scratch using fossil fuels, whereas the latter relies on post-consumer plastic. Wasted polyester is toxic to the earth. Among the trend is recycled plastic bottles being turned into fabrics which are considered sustainable to keep from them piling in the landfills. From a strictly environmental point of view, recycled polyester is more sustainable than virgin polyester.
